in sidereal Leo
August 4, 2024 tonight!
On this New Moon day (see previous post), Mercury also turns retrograde later tonight.
From our view here on earth, Mercury appears to be slowing down and will turn retrograde. This means that Mercury will be closer to us in the sky and will appear brighter (it is best to see him just after sunset until 9:12pm PT). This makes it a potent time for all that Mercury represents; logic, reason, curiosity, information, insights, ideas, stories, experiments, technology and communication… however, we must be flexible and willing to see these things from a different perspective.
The retrograde begins in Leo, the sign of leadership and strength. It’s time to tune inward and examine our personal story of power. The fire of Leo wants us to charge forward and take action, so turning inward feels counterintuitive. This is why we hear of communication break downs and tech interruptions during retrogrades - the normal, logical, forward flow has changed direction, and we resist. However, if we move with the cosmic direction, and go within, we will gain insights into a better way to manage our responsibilities and skillfully direct others.
During this retrograde, Mercury will move backwards towards Cancer and cross the Gandanta (the Karmic knot) from Aug 20-22. This spiritual knot is where past life emotional debris sits and is activated by the movement of a planet.
Analytical Mercury will move from passionate forward action (Leo) into the heart of emotion (Cancer). Expect some old patterns and feelings to appear in your communications, and heed caution when responding. Think twice before reacting to emails or messages, and remember everyone is being affected by this energy. Consider taking 24 hours to pause before responding.
Mercury will then turn direct (forward) on Aug 28th, and will travel back through the Gandanta into Leo Sept 3-4th. Again, be aware of illogical, emotional, reactions in communication at this time.
Once Mercury clears the knot he will meet the Sun, in Leo, in full strength and dignity. Here you will reap the benefits of the self observation during the retrograde, with a new outlook on your personal power and authority.
This dance of Mercury between Leo and Cancer links head and heart before acting and empowers us to be more compassionate, creating the best outcome for all.
